A documented PASCO experiment transfers motion through induction. It demonstrates conversion and coupling, not an independent source.
- 1External work or motion
- 2Guarded rotor / spring / coupling
- 3Matched generator / sensor
- 4Measured load and losses
Site and operating requirements
- Identify the external energy input and the maximum permitted rotor, bearing and spring limits from the selected kit.
- Use a stable dry bench, guards and a clear stop procedure. Do not increase speed to chase a voltage reading.
Tools and measuring equipment
- Ruler/caliper, tachometer or timed revolution count, correctly rated meter and the manufacturer’s matched leads and loads.
Output and operating conditions
Qualitative experiment: no continuous wattage is specified. A separate spring example, k = 25 N/m and x = 0.05 m, contains 0.03125 J before losses.
Coil turns are from the OEM experiment; spring stiffness, magnet grade, mass and geometry are not fully specified there. Do not invent replacements.Parts, quantities and dimensions
| Part | Quantity | Specification / dimensions |
|---|---|---|
| Coils | 2 | 400 turns each, as specified by PASCO Experiment 3. |
| Magnets and low-constant springs | 2 + 2 | Use matched OEM experiment parts; unpublished dimensions require the complete kit instructions. |
| Stands, machine nuts, banana leads | 2 stands + leads | Secure laboratory supports and the OEM-listed fittings. |
Preparation and component checks
- Use the two 400-turn coils and matched low-constant springs in PASCO Experiment 3. Secure both stands and check that magnets cannot strike coils at the chosen gentle displacement.
- Make a no-motion baseline, then repeat the same displacement with original and reversed leads. Disconnect before changing clips or instrument ranges.
Procedure
- 1
Follow the OEM diagram on printed pages 11–12; secure both magnet/spring assemblies over the coils.
- 2
Connect only the two unpowered coils with the specified leads.
- 3
Displace the first assembly gently by hand and observe the second; the hand supplies the energy.
- 4
Stop motion, reverse the lead connections as instructed, repeat and compare the response.
Safety and inspection
Supervision and secure stands are required. Small strong magnets are an ingestion/pinch hazard; keep away from children and susceptible medical devices.
Verify the result
Record voltage over time with compatible instrumentation if required. A visible oscillation does not establish usable continuous power.
Measurement log
- Coil identity/turns, displacement, connection polarity, oscillation response and voltage-time trace if an approved sensor is used. Spring stiffness remains unknown unless measured or specified.
Maintenance and repeat checks
- Check stand clamps and springs before use. Store magnets securely away from small children and magnet-sensitive equipment.
Troubleshooting
- No output, abnormal heat, noise, vibration or leaks
- Stop and isolate first. Check the documented input, load compatibility, alignment and connections; keep guards fitted and refer specialist systems to their installer.
