Follow the current, complete designer’s plan and corrections; this card is a project roadmap, not a tower or rotor drawing.
- 1External work or motion
- 2Guarded rotor / spring / coupling
- 3Matched generator / sensor
- 4Measured load and losses
Site and operating requirements
- Measure wind at the intended height; check turbulence, setbacks, tower access, land permission and local requirements.
- Use the complete current designer plan for one rotor/tower configuration, including braking, furling and electrical control.
Tools and measuring equipment
- Wind measurement/logging, dimensional inspection tools and the designer’s specified fabrication, balancing and tower equipment.
Output and operating conditions
No fixed W is assigned from rotor diameter. Use the chosen design’s measured power curve and hub-height wind distribution.
Hugh Piggott publishes fabrication plans and corrections. Dimensions, winding and electrical configuration must come from the same edition.Parts, quantities and dimensions
| Part | Quantity | Specification / dimensions |
|---|---|---|
| Blades, hub and alternator | 1 matched set | Select a complete plan variant; match blade geometry, steel disks, magnet layout, coils and casting materials. |
| Tower, foundation and restraint | site designed | Height, section size, guy anchors, mass and setbacks require structural and site design. |
| Rectifier, brake, controller and dump load | matched set | Use the designer’s compatible voltage/current ratings, battery and emergency-stop arrangement. |
Preparation and component checks
- Obtain one current complete plan and corrections; list blade geometry, rotor diameter, alternator, furling/brake, tower and anchor drawings before purchasing materials.
- Require a lifting/erection plan, exclusion area and independent checks of overspeed control, electrical isolation and tower fasteners.
Procedure
- 1
First assess the wind resource, planning rules, tower location and maintenance access.
- 2
Acquire the complete selected plan and latest corrections before buying materials.
- 3
Use trained fabrication and electrical personnel for magnet assembly, resin work, blade balance and controls.
- 4
Inspect the structure and protection and commission against the designer’s test procedure before raising the turbine.
Safety and inspection
Rotor failure, strong magnets, towers and electrical faults can seriously injure people. Use qualified construction and approved setbacks.
Verify the result
Do not estimate annual kWh from rated W × 24 alone; wind varies and turbulence lowers output.
Measurement log
- Wind at hub height, rotor and alternator revision, balance results, rpm, loaded output, braking/furling test and vibration. Log calm periods as zero generation.
Maintenance and repeat checks
- Use the designer’s periodic blade, fastener, tower, guy-wire, corrosion and brake inspection schedule. Lower/isolate only using the approved method and weather limits.
Troubleshooting
- No output, abnormal heat, noise, vibration or leaks
- Stop and isolate first. Check the documented input, load compatibility, alignment and connections; keep guards fitted and refer specialist systems to their installer.
